Keeneland kick-starts new sales season
AFTER a brief Christmas period break, the bloodstock sales season kicks off anew on Monday with Keeneland's January Horse of All Ages Sale. However, in a departure from the trend seen at nearly all major sales, the auction has decreased in size.
A total of 2,547 horses make up the seven-day sale, which ran to eight sessions last year after 2,933 lots were catalogued. The 1,201 broodmares represent the bulk of the catalogue, but there are also 862 short yearlings, 482 horses of racing age and two stallions.
